I haven't had chickens in over a year due to a highly deadly strain of Marek's they contracted as day-olds. Just my luck. But there are lots of anti-viral and generally immune boosting herbs that chickens can have. For instance, St. John's Wort is very anti-viral and chickens can have it...

Has anyone tried povidone iodine with saline for eye infection? That's what I've use for humans (25 drops saline and 1 drop povidone). Wondering if that would work for chickens too?
I'm dealing with a hen that has no appetite and horrible watery poop. For some reason, the vet recommended Tylan 50 (which I thought was for respiratory infection?) but this is what I could find.
So if Tylan 50 dosing is 1/4 mL per pound 3X daily for 5 days, and each mL contains 50 mg of tylosin, then 1/4 mL per pound is equal to 12.5mg tylosin per pound 3X daily for 5 days.
12.5 X 3 = 37.5 mg per day for 5 days
So a 5lb bird should have 187.5mg per day (split between 3 doses).
37.5...
Does anyone have the oral dosing for straight Tylosin per pound of bird? I have a girl on deaths door, poop has been basically water for over a week, and now she is barely eating. I'm really grasping at straws now and this is the last thing I can try.
No gurgling, no bubbles, no bad breathe. Crop empties fully in the night. I looked down her throat and it all seemed fine, but I don't really know what I'm looking for.
I was reading and I think she has Marek's and may be dealing with tumors in her respiratory way. I know the flock has...
I have a similar situation with a hen. Too expensive to take her to the vet, but vet said to check her mouth and see if something stuck in throat. I don't see anything. Don't know what to do.
I'm having a similar issue with my little hen. Two of three hens had mild respiratory symptoms. Put antibiotics in water as per included instructions. Now the one that had no symptoms seem lethargic. I don't want to stop treatment and risk encouraging antibiotic resistant bacterial growth, but...
Old post, but in case someone runs into this now... I'm in California and am having the same problem. Apparently Tylan 50 is tylosin. I was able to order this: https://birdpalproducts.com/products/tylosin-powder-for-birds
Old thread, but for what it's worth, we have a giant old aloe plant in our yard and our free-range chickens have eaten it readily for the last 3 or 4 months and so far so good.
Thank you.
This was our first attempt at chickens, and they have had Coccidiosis, and now Marek's and some bacterial infection (the bacterial infection apparently can be treated). They are only 11 weeks old. I think the chicks we received were just unhealthy????
They have had a very clean...
We have just confirmed that our Bresse flock has Mareks. We have four 11-week old hens that do not yet show symptoms, so we don't know of they will overcome it.
We live in very close proximity to 2 other flocks and do not feel it is the responsible thing to keep them and risk our neighbors...
