Cockerel or Pullets

I have a number of chicks growing with these darker combs. For some reason I was under the impression that pale or dark combs are usually pullets for any breed except AC. Can anyone chime in on this for me. Chicks are 4-6 weeks old.

The one standing next to the plant is a cockerel, the one in your hand is a pullet. Would need a better picture of the one on the wire cage top to make any gender decisions, it's too blurry and I can't see the comb and wattles that well.

A lot of EE chicks with black legs also start out with dark combs/waddles that turn red as they age.

Okay so I have a few like the one in my hands. Why is she a pullet? Is it because the comb is small and dark or because she doesn’t have wattles that stand out like the blue boy next to the plant?

Both are reasons, the wattles don't stand out and the comb is undeveloped with no redness showing through the dark skin.
