Roosters eating hen laying feed

I did read here recently that it takes four crunched-up eggshells to supply the amount of Ca needed to lay one egg. It was just a casual mention, so I don’t know how accurate it is. At any rate, I do think you’ll need more than eggshells, unless you’re eating a ton of eggs from the store.

Therefore, you’ll also need to supply oyster shell. Mine weren’t going for the big chunk oyster shells, so I’ve ordered oyster shell flakes and will start providing them tomorrow.

We just give them the egg shells almost like treats... they eat them up like candy!! And we started doing thatseveral years ago because they just hardly eat any of the oyster shell.. i get out there and beat it with a hammer to make smaller pieces and they still rarely eat it. My hubby even tried one time crush up the oyster shell then mixing egg shells in with it... the next day they had scratched all that out on the ground and scratched thru it getting all the egg shell out they could!
Never heard of flakes! Will look that up.... might try it too! Thank you!
